When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.

~ Audre Lorde

One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore.

Fear grows in darkness; if you think there's a bogeyman around, turn on the light.

Coaching

What is Coaching?

The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as follows:

"Personal and business coaching is an ongoing professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, businesses or organizations." (http://www.coachfederation.org/ICF/)

Studies with organizations have shown that training programs generally can lead to improved capacity and productivity, however, when training is paired with coaching the results are increased significantly. Coaching provides a confidential and supportive environment for individuals to explore issues, integrate new learning, make plans, try new strategies, evaluate results and refine approaches. Coaching happens during purposeful coversations which typically take between 30 - 60 minutes and can be done by phone or face to face.

She works with both independent clients and organizations. Through focused questioning and feedback, Paula supports clients to develop increased awareness, explore options, leverage resources, design action plans, take action and evaluate progress and results.

Coaching Training

Paula and a team of associates are able to provide onsite coaching training for leaders, managers and staff. Trainings are highly interactive, engaging of existing expertise and focused on organizational contexts and goals.

Shadow Coaching

Paula also provides 'shadow coaching' services for interested individuals. Shadow coaching involves the coach's actual presence in the workplace and provides the client with real-time support and feedback based on pre-arranged protocols between the coach and client.

Coaching Approach

In the book "Coaching for Leadership", Alan Fine speaks of the fifteenth century definition of coaching as: “something that conveyed valued people from where they are to where they want to go” That definition referred to the horse-drawn coach but it is also applicable to our approach to coaching. The client is considered a “valued” person and is treated with dignity and respect.  We trust in each client's innate ability to uncover their own best answers to a given situation. Coaching is the vehicle which supports the individual on their personal journey to where they want to go.

Paula is able to work with clients in a number of different ways, depending on their focus, needs and personal style. If useful, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator can be integrated into the coaching work. Paula also has had training in Hakomi Psychotherapy and, for clients who are interested, is able to use a body-centred approach to coaching. This means the client studies their physical responses and sensations during the coaching session in addition to exploring information that is available on the cognitive and emotional levels.
